Description
Description
(Velika zlatna kolajna Poglavnika Ante Pavelića za hrabrost). Instituted December 27, 1941. Die struck in 14K Gold, measures 40.8 mm (w) x 44.6 mm (h), weighs 41.8 grams, with maker's mark "TK" stamped on the rim (for Teodor Krivak, Varaždin, who was a designer of the medal). Also stamped on the rim and arch suspension is an official Gold hallmark for 14 Kt Gold (pine marten), with original ribbon. An exceptional medal in MINT state, undoubtedly the best known example, of which less than five are known to be struck in Gold. Gold medals were struck at Croatian foundry "Kovnica Sorlini, Varaždin".
Footnote: Golden medal Ante Pavelić for bravery was worn on a uniquely constructed ribbon, and was worn from the second upper button. The die of the golden bravery medal is different from the die used on large silver bravery medals, as well, the suspension is different. Beside the great honour, the recipient of the Golden medal for bravery had the right to title "Knight" (Vitez). The Golden medal for bravery was rarely awarded, and during the entire World War Two only seven persons (five of them posthumously) received this award. As well, two Croatian units received this award. It is believed only for a short time in 1941, few medals were struck in solid Gold, while later medals were struck in silver gilt.
