Footnote: The Dufferin and Haldimand Rifles of Canada was an infantry regiment of the Canadian Militia formed in 1866, drawing its personnel from Dufferin and Haldimand counties in Ontario. The regiment contributed to Canada’s early home defence during the post-Confederation period and later provided trained manpower for overseas service in the First World War through the Canadian Expeditionary Force. In 1936 it was amalgamated with The Haldimand Rifles to form The Dufferin and Haldimand Rifles of Canada, preserving the local militia traditions of both counties.
