Austria, Empire. A Lot of Two Medals & Decorations (Bravery/Merit)

A lot of two Austro-Hungarian medals and decorations, consisting of:

1. (Tapferkeitsmedaille). Instituted July 19th, 1789. Type III (1866-1914 Issue). A Bravery Medal II. Class, a round silver medal, with a horizontally oriented oval ring for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse depicting a rightward-facing effigy of Kaiser Franz Joseph of Austria, circumscribed “Franz Joseph I.V.G.G Kaiser v. Oesterreich”, marked “Tautenhayn” near the bottom, the reverse inscribed “Der Tapferkeit” (For Bravery) within a laurel wreath with banners at the base, unmarked, measuring 31.3 mm in diameter, weighing 17.05 grams, contact marks throughout, in overall very fine condition.

2. (Militärverdienstkreuz). Instituted on October 24th, 1849. Second Period (1914-1918 Issue). A Military Merit Cross III Class, Of multi-piece construction, in silver with red and white enamels, on a fixed ring and swivel loop for suspension from its period original tri-fold ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with red and white enameled arms, with gilded laurel leaves in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse with a central white enameled medallion inscribed with “Verdienst” (Merit), the reverse with white enameled arms and a white enameled center medallion, marked “V.M” for manufacture by Vincent Mayers und Sohn, Wien, and Austrian hallmarked with a Diana's head (Dianakopf) (which was used between 1872 and 1922), measuring 30.8 mm (w) x 30.9 mm (l), weighing 13.85 grams, with light contact marks on the enamels, in overall near extremely fine condition.
