Fullsize: in bronze, engraved "3728875 K G ROBERTSON" on the edge, obverse illustrating the Australian Defence Force insignia composed of crossed swords fronting an anchor and backed by wings, with the Federation Star above, surrounded by the inscription "ANNIVERSARY OF NATIONAL SERVICE / 1951-1972" and surmounted by the St. Edward crown, reverse illustrating the Southern Cross overlaying emanating rays within a cog wheel, a traditional symbol for the spirit of co-operation between the Australian Defence Force and the community, measuring 39 mm (w) x 51 mm (h), original ribbon with pinback; and Miniature: in bronze, obverse and reverse as per the fullsize version, measuring 19.5 mm (w) x 25 mm (h), original ribbon with pinback; near mint. Accompanied by an individual fullsize ribbon, in their hardshelled case of issue, the exterior in black, the lid padded and inscribed "ANNIVERSARY OF NATIONAL SERVICE 1951-1972 MEDAL" in silver-coloured ink, the base with an insert incorporating a recessed medal bed in black felt, measuring 83 mm (w) x 157 mm (h) x 27 mm (d), in its cardboard sleeve with a label affixed, the label inscribed "3728875 KENNETH GILBERT ROBERTSON" (ANSM 4004/03)" along with the handwritten notation "6/690", case also near mint.
Footnote: All 325,000 National Servicemen, including the next-of-kin of the 187 who were killed on active service, are eligible for this medal. It was struck to publicly recognize all National Servicemen between 1951 and 1972, who served in the defence of Australia, with approximately 127,000 issued as of 2013. There is no post-nominal for this medal.
