Description
Description
An extremely well-preserved Argentine Army Mauser M1891 bayonet, measuring 54 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 40 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to both the tip and lower edge. A wide fuller runs the majority of the length of the upper edge of each side of the blade. The obverse ricasso is stamped with a serial number of “T 1257”, while an additional inscription ending in “1891” has been professionally ground out of the same side of the ricasso. The reverse ricasso bears a maker’s mark of “WEYERSBERG, KIRSCHBAUM & CO, SOLINGEN”. It sits securely within a multi-piece hilt featuring a magnetic metal crossguard with a hooked quillon and crosspiece. A magnetic metal pommel features a hollow insertion slot which retains a functional push-button spring release, stamped with a mark of “RA” for República Argentina. Two pieces of ribbed aluminum alloy compose the handle gripe. Accompanying the bayonet is its original scabbard, constructed of an anodized magnetic steel shaft. A stud emanates from the side of the shaft just beneath the throat for the accommodation of a frog. Stamped onto the shaft between the stud and throat is a serial number of “T 1257”, indicating a matching set. A functional catch situated within the throat firmly holds the bayonet in place during storage. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, this quintessential example of a German-made bayonet produced for export to the Argentinian Army remains in an extremely fine condition.
