Description
Description
Two certificates, measuring 212x300mm, both in extremely fine condition with light scuffing and two punched holes. The first certificate is an application to award the Front Flying Clasp for Fighter Pilots in Silver to pilot Lieutenant Horst Müller, part of the 2nd Group of Fighter Wing 76, for 64 missions flown, 51 of which to England. It states that Müller already owns the Clasp in Bronze. The document is dated to June 24, 1941 and signed via typewriter by Müller’s superior Senior Lieutenant Bettermann. Müller was awarded the Silver Clasp on June 28.
The second certificate is an application for the same award in Gold for 110 missions flown. The document is dated to September 3, 1941 and signed by a Senior Lieutenant and Adjutant, his name is indecipherable. Müller was awarded the decoration on September 5, 1941.
Footnote:
Not much is known about the life of Horst Müller. He was born on February 23, 1916. Almost a year after the Front Flying Clasp awards, he was still flying with the 2nd Group of Fighter Wing 76 on the Eastern Front, where on May 3, 1942 he was awarded the Knight’s Cross as Senior Lieutenant. He went missing in action on July 13, 1943 near Sicily.
