A South African Medal to the Connaught Rangers

A South African Medal to the Connaught Rangers - 1877-8 (631. Pte A. CARBERRY 88th FOOT). Naming is officially engraved. Dark patina, scratch near monarch's chin on the obverse, clasp dented on both sides, near extremely fine. Accompanied by copies the List of Men of the 88th Regiment Entitled to the South Africa Medal, Nominal List of Men Discharged, and List of Men of the 88th Regiment and the Clasps they were Awarded.   Footnote: Alexander Carberry enlisted with the 88th Regiment of Foot on October 18, 1875. He is documented as having fought in the South African campaigns of the late 1870s, including engaging the Zulus in 1879. He was discharged from active service on October 17, 1887. In addition to the 1877-8 clasp, it appears he was also awarded the 1879 clasp, but has been lost to time.
