WWII Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Officer's Visor
WWII Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Officer's Visor - This fine quality peaked cap is fabricated from a grayish-blue wool-cotton blend, featuring the classic high peak. It has a wide black band around its circumference, which supports the RCAF insignia at the front. The insignia is composed of three metal pieces: a gilt and silvered King's crown with red and green enamels in its base, maroon felt accent inside the crown, above a gilt eagle and framed by a gilt open-ended leafed wreath, on a padded black wool base, measuring 65 mm x 70 mm. The visor is also in grayish-blue, matching the rest of the cap and has a leather strap with dual adjustable sliders that runs across the front between the black posts on either side. The underside of the cap is covered in a green synthetic material. The rear of the cap has four grommets in place, to aid in ventilation. The interior comes with a 46 mm wide, beige-coloured leather headband that features a reinforced strip of leather sewn at the front, emboss stamped with the "MUIR CAP CO LIMITED TORONTO / CONTRACTORS TO THE DOMINION GOVERNMENT" manufacturer's mark on the left side. The ends of the leather are joined together at the rear and are bow-tied in place with a white ribbon. The dome is lined in a salmon-coloured rayon with an overlaying reddish brown waterproof liner, the "MUIR CAP CO LIMITED TORONTO / CONTRACTORS TO THE DOMINION GOVERNMENT" manufacturer's mark stamped in black on the rayon dome and visible through the liner. The cap measures 250 mm x 260 mm x 95 mm in height. A good portion of the headband has separated from the cap itself, due to the loss of stitching and exhibits wear overall from active use. It still maintains most of its quality Canadian-made manufacturing in its stitching and fabric on the exterior, in very fine condition.
