What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Buyer's Premium

All bids are subject to a Buyer's Premium which is in addition to the placed successful bid. The following rate of Buyer's Premium will be added to the Hammer Price of each Lot that you purchase:

United States. A USN Commander's Visor Cap, Named to Commander C.P. Hogan

Fabricated from a white cotton on the exterior, featuring the classic high peak, the hidden white plastic frame giving definition to the shape of the cap. It has a 40 mm wide band in black wool displaying a repeating thatched-look pattern around its circumference. There is a 60.2 mm (w) x 54.5 mm (h) United States Navy officer's cap badge on the front, the cap badge with a two-piece construction, consisting of a silvered metal eagle and shield fronting crossed fouled anchors in bronze gilt, the cap badge affixed to a support wrapped in black wool via two screwbacks, the support sewn in place to the black wool band.

The stiff visor is finished in black wool on the upper, with a single arc consisting of two facing branches of oak leaves and acorns in fine gold-colored bullion wire, the raised midribs of the leaves in rolled gold-coloured bullion wire, the single arc of oak leaves and acorns designating it as a Commander/Captain's cap, with a reinforcing strip in black patent leather stitched in place on the edge. There is a strap in silvered fine bullion wire and incorporating light brown threading, with dual adjustable sliders matching the strap, running across the front between the brass buttons on either side, each of the buttons bearing the Navy eagle and anchor surrounded by thirteen five-pointed stars insignia. The underside of the visor is in a black pebbled synthetic material, the underlying framework on the sidewalls in a thatched wicker-like material. It incorporates a 40 mm wide sweatband in leather, the upper with a smooth chocolate brown finish, the ends of which are held together via a chocolate brown ribbon at the rear.

It is perforated in multiple angled rows for ventilation, the rows consisting of four holes each along the front, left side and rear of the sweatband, the right side stamped in gold-coloured ink "BANCROFT'S ZEPHYR". A wide white plastic strap runs from the front to the back in the dome, the strap incorporating a manufacturer's label inscribed "BANCROFT Military Caps / Makers of Fine Caps for Over 50 Years / FRAMINGHAM, MASS." under a clear plastic name sleeve, the sleeve slotted below the label and housing a naming insert card marked "THIS BANCROFT CAP BELONGS TO:" and named in blue ink to "CDR. C.P. HOGAN / WADSWORTH, ILL.". The cap measures 270 mm in width x 290 mm in depth x 115 mm in height, exhibiting light soiling towards the front and rear of the cap on the top, along with discoloration in the bullion wire of the oak leaves and acorns. It is of very fine quality manufacture, the cap badge remaining pristine. Better than very fine.
