Description
Description
(Bundeswehr Mützen). A pair of Bundeswehr caps, including a Luftwaffe Officer’s visor cap, constructed of dark grey whipcord wool. It features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a woven blue-grey wool cap band. Silver aluminum wire piping trims the cap band along both the top and bottom edges, with an additional band of identical piping fully surrounding the crown. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is a wire Bundeswehr-style tricolour cockade, measuring 20 mm in diameter. Underneath the cockade in the centre of the cap band is an additional insignia consisting of a dark grey wool backer bearing hand-embroidered silver aluminum wire wings on top of an oak leaf wreath, measuring 75 mm (w) x 50 mm (h). The cap band is also flanked on each side by pebbled magnetic metal buttons securing in place a black plastic chinstrap, adjusted with dual buckles of identical construction. When not in use, the chinstrap rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, presenting with dark grey wool and a silver aluminum wire fringe along the rim. The reverse of the visor reveals a faux leather texture. A dark blue leather sweatband fully lines the interior, bisected with an integrated silver aluminum wire band, while a dark grey rayon liner also encompasses the interior of the crown. Stitched onto the crown is an oval transparent plastic moisture guard, underneath which is a gilt maker’s mark of “KKBW KOBLENZ”, with an inscription indicating official approval as a supplier of uniforms to the Bundeswehr. The cap measures approximately 240 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 175 mm (h). Minor distortion of the side walls is evident, and there is a small patch of mothing to the front crown, but the cap is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
Also including a Bergmütze (mountain cap), constructed of blue-green wool. It is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, with frontal scalloping, providing optional ear and neck protection for the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front by two pebbled magnetic metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. It is flanked on each side with a ventilation hole, both reinforced with magnetic metal eyelets. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a green rayon trapezoid bearing a machine-embroidered Bundeswehr-style tricolour cockade above a coat of arms. Completing the exterior features is a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor. The interior is fully surrounded by a grey leather sweatband, secured in place with a row of machine stitching. A dark grey rayon liner encompasses the interior, with a transparent rhomboid moisture guard stitched onto the crown. The moisture guard retains a partially-legible maker’s mark of “ALBERT KEMPF”. It measures approximately 220 mm (w) x 250 mm (l) x 145 mm (h). Some soiling is evident to the exterior wool, in addition to minor interior material fatigue. The cap is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
