(Luftwaffe Papier). An extensive collection of documents to Luftwaffe Officer Ernst Halbrock, born 17 February 1917 in Kassel, Germany. The group includes:
A certificate for an Iron Cross II Class, dated 24 May 1940 and measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), in extremely fine condition;
A certificate for an Iron Cross I Class, dated 11 July 1940 and and measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), in extremely fine condition;
A certificate for a Luftwaffe Observer Badge, dated 24 September 1940, measuring 149 mm (w) x 209 mm (h), in extremely fine condition;
A certificate for a Front Flying Clasp for Observers in Bronze, dated 4 August 1941, measuring 149 mm (w) x 209 mm (h), in extremely fine condition;
A certificate for a Front Flying Clasp for Observers in Silver, dated 14 April 1942, measuring 148 mm (w) x 210 mm (h), in extremely fine condition;
A certificate for a Front Flying Clasp in Gold, dated 10 September 1942, measuring 149 mm (w) x 209 mm (h), in extremely fine condition;
A certificate for an Eastern Front Medal, dated 14 September 1942, measuring 140 mm (w) x 200 mm (h), in extremely fine condition;
A certificate for a Luftwaffe Honour Goblet, signed by Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring, dated 19 October 1942 and measuring 209 mm (w) x 297 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.
A certificate for a German Cross in Gold, signed by Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring, dated 2 August 1943 and measuring 253 mm (w) x 355 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
It is accompanied by a 1939/1940 Marksmanship Book (Schießbuch) featuring 20 pages of weapons training statistics for Halbrock, with a black-and-white photograph of the bearer, measuring 102 mm (w) x 145 mm (h). It includes a typewritten insert with a comprehensive list of Halbrock’s awards and their date of issue, signed by Halbrock’s group captain.
Also included is a discharge certificate, indicating that Halbrock was discharged from the Luftwaffe after captivity on 9 October 1949, and was unfit for further military service due to heart problems. It measures 212 mm (w) x 274 mm (h) and displayed moderate material fatigue; in overall near very fine condition.
It is accompanied by a certificate of service, dated 8 March 1960, confirming that Halbrock entered the Wehrmacht on 4 December 1936 as part of the 78th Infantry Regiment, later transferring to the Luftwaffe where he ended his service with the rank of Captain on 20 April 1945. It measures 211 mm (w) x 298 mm (h) and is in very fine condition.
The group also contains a number of images, including a studio portrait of Halbrock in a Hauptmann’s uniform, with an Iron Cross I Class and Luftwaffe Observer Badge visible. The photograph is undated, measures 81 mm (w) x 131 mm (h), and is in extremely fine condition.
The photograph is complemented by a sketched portrait of Halbrock, measuring 90 mm (w) x 142 mm (h), signed by the artist as “E.R.” and dated “1947”. It is in near extremely fine condition.
The group is completed by a photograph of a Focke-Wulf FW 189 in mid-flight. The reverse features a postcard-style arrangement. It measures 141 mm (w) x 90 mm (h) and is in extremely fine condition.
