(Cruz Laureada de la Real y Militar Orden de San Fernando). Instituted 1808 by the General Courts of Cadiz; approved 1814 by King Ferdinand VII. Constructed of silver gilt, an unbodied star consisting of enameled red and yellow four swords connected by their gilded hilts on the centre, surrounded by an enameled green laurel wreath with red details, with plain reverse, measuring 41.38 mm (w) x 41.93 mm (h), mounted to a bar with swing locking clasp, light contact, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Royal and Military Order of Saint Ferdinand, commonly known as Laureate Cross of Saint Ferdinand is Spain's highest military award for gallantry. It is awarded in recognition of action, either individual or collective, to protect the nation, its citizens or the peace and security of the international community in the face of immediate risk to the bearer or bearers' life or lives. Those eligible are current and former members of the Spanish Armed Forces.
