The Miniature Awards of Admiral Sir John Kelly - Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Companion (Gold and enamels, 24 mm x 27 mm); Royal Victorian Order, Knight Grand Cross (silver gilt and enamels, 19.8 mm x 20.8 mm); Queen's South Africa Medal, 2 Clasps - CAPE COLONY, SOUTH AFRICA 1901 (silver, 18 mm); 1914-15 Star (bronze, 19.3 mm x 24 mm); British War Medal, 7 Unofficial Clasps - DARDANELLES, GALLIPOLI, MEDITERRANEAN 1914, MEDITERRANEAN 1915, NORTH SEA 1916, NORTH SEA 1917, NORTH SEA 1918 (silver, 17.7 mm, bronze MID oakleaf on ribbon); Victory Medal (bronze, 18 mm); Jubilee Medal (silver, 17.7 mm); France: Order of the Legion of Honour (silver gilt and enamels, 21.3 mm x 22.6 mm, rosette on ribbon); Italy: Order of the Crown (silver and enamels, 21.5 mm, rosette on ribbon); and France: WWI Croix de Guerre 1914-1918 (bronze, 17 mm, bronze palm on ribbon). Very crisp detail, original ribbons, mounted to a suspension bar with swingbar pinback, plus black wool protective backer, as worn by the veteran, light contact, enamel chipping on the obverse centrepiece of the Italy: Order of the Crown, near extremely fine.   Footnote: John Donald Kelly was born on July 13, 1871. He joined the Royal Navy  in 1884 and received a series of promotions: Midshipman (1886), Sub.-Lieutenant (1889), Lieutenant (1893), Commander (1904), Captain (1911), appointed Director of the Naval Operations Division (1919), Rear Admiral (1921), 4th Sea Lord (1924), Vice Admiral (1926) and Admiral (1930). He was entrusted with the task of restoring discipline following the Mutiny at Invergordon (1931). He was awarded his Royal Victorian Order, Knight Grand Cross (GCVO) in 1932 and was Naval Aide-de-camp to the King from 1934 to 1936. The day before he retired in 1936, he was promoted to Admiral of the Fleet, at the age of 65.
