A German Rural Field Police Officer's Dress Tunic

A German Rural Field Police Officer's Dress Tunic - This tunic is fabricated from green cotton and is trimmed with black wool on the collar and cuffs, with orange piping. It is adorned with silver bullion wire shoulder boards with orange wool bases, displaying one bronze pip each and held in place by silver gilt pebbled buttons. The collar tabs are representative of the German Rural Police and are also silver bullion wire with orange wool bases. There is a dual hook and eye closure on the collar, ensuring a snug fit at the neckline. The upper left arm has the Feldgendarmerie arm badge sewn in place, which was worn by all ranks of the German Field Police up to the rank of Lieutenant (Leutnant). This particular badge is fabricated from silver bullion wire on a forest green wool base, indictative of an officer's badge. The front has four pockets, one on each breast which are pleated and one at the waist on both sides, which are covered by flaps with silver gilt buttons at the top. There are two vertical threads sewn in place above the left breast pocket where an award once resided but has been lost to time. The front is completed by a vertical row of eight silver gilt buttons on the right side, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left, trimmed in orange piping on both open sides of the tunic. The rear of the tunic is single vented, with elongated straps on either side of the opening, again trimmed in orange piping with two silver gilt buttons each. The inside is lined in olive green rayon, with one small pocket at the waist on the left side. There is a belt sewn in place at the waist on both sides, with polished, magnetic hardware, the right side buckle with a clip and the left side buckle with the receiving slot, allowing for a snug fit at the waistline. The sleeves are lined in white rayon with vertical stripes. The "Kuhn & Nupnau Munchen" maker's label is sewn below the collar, with three metal knobs at the collar for attachment to the officer's shirt collar. The tunic measures 420 mm across the shoulders and 650 mm in length overall. There are two holes on the right front shoulder indicative of moth invasion, plus scattered light stain spots throughout. It displays a nice texture in the cotton and wool, quality workmanship, beautiful, intact stitching, in very fine condition.
