Anhalt, Duchy. An Infanterie-Regiment 93 Officer’s Pickelhaube

(Anhalt Pickelhaube für Offizier der Infanterie-Regiment 93). A well-preserved Anhalt Infanterie-Regiment 93 Officer’s pickelhaube, constructed of a black vulcan fibre shell. Situated atop the crown is a silvered brass spike perforated around the neck with ventilation holes, and which is secured in place with a baseplate featuring four magnetic metal rivets. A bar of identical construction emanates from the back of the baseplate and extends down to a boiled and blackened leather neck guard. Riveted to the peak is an insignia consisting of a silvered brass plate in the form of a Prussian imperial eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, overlaid by a banner bearing an inscription of “MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND” (“WITH GOD FOR KING AND FATHERLAND”), topped by a central right-pointed starburst with a crown Anhalt coat of arms. The plate measures 13.5 cm (w) x 9.5 cm (h) overall. It is flanked on each side by silvered studs securing in place a multi-piece chinstrap, constructed of a reinforced black leather base topped by silvered scales which taper towards the centre, where it closes with a prong. Situated beneath the studs are non-magnetic metal cockades, with the left side painted in a black and red motif, while the right side is painted in an Imperial red, white, and black tri-colour scheme. The exterior features are completed with a protruding boiled and blackened leather visor, reinforced along the rim with a silvered bar. The interior retains an original black leather liner, culminating in eight fingers, each perforated at the top with an eyelet through which is looped a drawstring. Unmarked with the exception of an illegible hand-etched owner’s name on the reverse of the visor, the Pickelhaube measures approximately 17.5 cm (w) x 23.5 cm (l) x 23 cm (h). Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some material fatigue to both the vulcan fibre shell and leather elements, as well as minor tarnishing of the metal fixtures. It is in an overall better than very fine condition.
