A period original signed photograph of Hanns-Heinrich Lohmann; signed in black pen; the reverse with an archive catalogue number “108/18” in blue pen, as well as “H.H Lohmann (1911-95); measuring 147 mm x 105 mm; mint condition.
Footnote: Hanns Heinrich Lohmann (April 24, 1911 - May 25, 1995) was an Obersturmbannführer (Lieutenant Colonel) in the Waffen-SS. He joined the Waffen-SS in May 1935, and was first posted to Regiment Deutschland. He was transferred to the SS-Junkerschule following an ankle injury in 1936. He was once again posted to Deutschland Regiment in November 1938. In June of 1941, he was given command of the “Wiking” Division, where he participated in Operation Barbarossa in the towns of Kotelnikovo and Simovniki. During that time he covered the retreat of the Army Group A, and was awarded the German Cross in Gold for his actions. In May 1943, Lohmann was assigned to the 11th Waffen-SS Division “Nordland”. In August 1943, he was sent to Paris for a training course for armoured troops, before returning to battle and participating in the Siege of Leningrad, where he was awarded the Knight’s Cross for his actions. He was transferred to the III Waffen-SS Panzer Corps in October 1944, fighting in the Gollnow area, where he was awarded the Oakleaves to the Knight’s Cross by the order of Generalleutnant Unrein. He survived the war and died in his home on May 25, 1995.
