This is a fine quality manufacture Iron Cross 1939 Second Class by a desirable Austrian maker; silver frame with a blackened iron core; on loop for suspension (marked “15” for Friedrich Orth of Wien/Vienna); with a mint period-original ribbon; measuring 44.30 mm x 43.95 mm; weighing 20.2 grams. Accompanied by its original paper packet of issue; embossed with “Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse 1939” in black ink on the obverse in gothic lettering, and the reverse with “Friedrich Orth, Wien, 56”; measuring 128 mm x 105 mm; the core of the cross fits snug, with attractive dark patina from age; overall near extremely fine condition.
