CROATIAN NAVAL LEGION BADGE WW II
Badge was introduced in 1942 and was worn by the members of Croatian Naval Legion. Croatian Naval Legion was involved in the Eastern (Russian) front as part of the German Naval group 'Unterseebootjagerflotille 23' at the Black Sea during 1942-43. Legions commander was Andro Vrkljan, and duties of the Legion included escort, minesweeping and alike. Badge was awarded after 2 months of active service. This is an early example of this badge in silvered bronze and enamels with wide vertical pin, measuring 37.5 x 49.70 mm. Unmarked, although these badges were made only by Zagreb's maker "Braca Knaus"'. Badge shows age, corrosion, most of the enamel on front shield is missing, thus in fair/good condition.
