Russia, Imperial. A Commemorative Medal for the Death of Empress Anna 1740, by I. Lefken

Constructed of a silvered alloy, the obverse bearing a raised and rightward-facing bust of Empress Anna, circumscribed by name and title in Russian Cyrillic, situated above birth and dates dates, the reverse bearing a depiction a depiction of the Empress descending from Heaven to crown Emperor Ivan VI, circumscribed by an inscription of “ТАКО ПЕЧАЛЬ НАРОДА УТОЛИЛА” (“SO THE PEOPLES’ SADNESS HAS BEEN QUENCHED”), and situated above a date of “17 OCTOBER 1740”, engraver marked with the dedication of I. Lefken, measuring 57.03 mm in diameter, weighing 44.2 grams, demonstrating extensive edge bruising and material spillover, with additional softening of features, a scarce example in better than very fine condition.
