Portugal, Kingdom. A Military Order of the Immaculate Conception of Vila Vicosa, Grand Cross Set

(Ordem de Nossa Senhora da Conceição da Vila Viçosa). Instituted in 1818. In silver gilt, a nine-armed star with clusters of five rays, the obverse presents a superimposed nine-arm white enamelled star with white enamelled stars in each quadrant, the obverse medallion in Gold features the cypher MA for Mary in Gold, surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed PADROEIRA DO REINO (Patroness of the Kingdom), surmounted by an ornate crown, reverse plain, measures 64.7 mm (w) x 84.1 mm (h), weighs 35.13 grams, accompanied by a small section of a similar grand cross sash, enamel damage to 11 o’clock arm, scattered gilt wear, in near extremely fine condition. 

The Star of the Order, in silver gilt, a nine-armed star with clusters of five rays, the obverse presents a superimposed nine-arm white enamelled star with white enamelled stars in each quadrant, the obverse medallion in Gold features the cypher MA for Mary in Gold, surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed PADROEIRA DO REINO (Patroness of the Kingdom), surmounted by an ornate crown with red and green enamelled details along the riband attached at 12 o’clock, reverse features a thick vertical pin, marked on the pin and the obverse of the 6 o’clock arm with Portuguese silver mark denoting Lisbon manufacturer and silver fineness of .833, and small mark stating PART, measures 70.7 mm (w) x 82.9 mm (h), weighs 57.36 grams, enamels intact, light gilt wear, extremely fine.
