Italy, Two Sicilies. A Royal Military Order of St. George of the Reunion, Knight by Right, in Gold, c.1850

(Real Ordine Militare di San Giorgio della Riunione). Instituted January 1st, 1819. Constructed of 18kt Gold, consisting of a red enameled cross with a laurel and oak wreath as well as crossed swords in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse center medallion presents a figure in Gold spearing a dragon on horseback on a white enamel field, surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed “Vinces in Hoc Signo”, the reverse medallion presents the same central figure as obverse, surrounded by a blue enamel ring inscribed “Virtuti”, measures 43.9 mm (w) x 48.5 mm (h), weighs 18.34 grams, worn on a small segment of neck ribbon, enamels intact on the obverse, the reverse central medallion bears a small chip in the white enamel background, otherwise in extremely fine condition.
