Canada, CEF. A First War Pair to Pte. P. E. Soall, 20th Battalion, Died of Disease 1921

A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, full size, rim officially impressed 7755575 PTE. P. E. SOALL. 20-CAN. INF., minor wear and scratches, very fine. 

A 126th Battalion Cap Badge, in browning copper, unmarked, two lugs on the reverse, measures 47mm (w) x 47mm (h), light wear, oxidation in relief, remains near very fine. 

Footnote: Philip Edgar Soall was born in Essex, England in December 1890. He was residing in Brampton, Ontario and working as a laborer when he enlisted on January 18, 1916.

He suffered from pneumonia in July 1916, being discharged to duty mid August. He arrived in England in April 1917 via the S.S. Scandinavian. He was taken on strength with the 12th Reserve Battalion, and later transferred to the 29th Battalion in June 1918. 

On August 31, 1918, he Soall was admitted to the No. 2 Stationary Hospital in Abbeville for a gunshot wound to the right arm. He was discharged in October. In late April 1919, he suffered from endocarditis. 

His war records state that he died on July 22, 1921. His death is attributed to disease associated with service.
