Canada, CEF. A First and Second War Lot to Pte. James Fillmore, 85th Battalion and RCAF

A Service Record belonging to Sgt. Fillmore, P., comprising eight pages of detailed entries regarding training periods/camps, promotions, transfers, engagements, commanding officers, and ‘pals’ to remember for both the First and Second War, measures 78 mm (w) x 171 mm (h), extremely fine. 

Two black and white photographs of Fillmore, one dated Halifax December 1916, and the other is a postcard from Paris, both exhibiting slight wear, but remain very fine,

Footnote: James Fillmore was born on June 8, 1898 in Amherst, N.S. When he enlisted with the 246th Battalion on December 12, 1916, he was residing with his foster mother, Mrs. Taylor, and working as a boilermaker, in Port Elgin, N.B. 

He arrived in Liverpool, England in June 1917, and transferred to the 185th Battalion. He arrived in Boulouge, France in March 1917, and came under fire for the first time at Mount St. Eloi, Cambria. Fillmore was demobilized in June 1919, on his 21st birthday. 

During the second war, he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on January 11, 1941, in Halifax, Canada. He trained from January 13 until March 11th of the same year, in Toronto. He completed multiple training courses in Nova Scotia in early 1941 and later in 1943. 

He was promoted to acting corporal in May 1941, and sergeant in September 1944.

Fillmore was discharged at Lachine, Quebec in December 1945.
