(瑞宝章, Zuihō-shō) Institution Date: January 4, 1888 by Emperor Meiji. An Order of the Sacred Treasure, II Class Breast Star. In silver gilt with white and blue enamels, along with sixteen red glass cabochons, measuring at 72mm diameter, weighs 66.8 grams, with a vertical pinback and dual stays on the reverse. The reverse also presents characters translating to "Order of Merit Decoration" between four rivets. Scattered gilt wear, enamels intact with light crazing to the red enamel, hinge and catch functional, a beautiful and rare star in extremely fine condition.
Presented in its original octagon black leather case with gold Japanese characters in a vertical line on the top of the case. The interior of the case consists of two different mediums, the top a purple cushioned fabric and the bottom a purple velvet medal bed. The case measures 95mm (w) x 98mm (l) x 36mm (d). There is very minor scuffing to the exterior, specifically around the hinge, and light wear on the lid, hinge and catch are functional, the case remains in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: This Order was established by Emperor Meiji in recognition of long, faithful civil or military service, or for meritorious civil or military service. It is conferrable upon men and women, who became eligible for this award in 1919. It may also be awarded posthumously.
