Description
A British 1864 Pattern Cavalry Trooper’s sword, featuring a long, slightly curved, steel blade with flat back and single fuller on each side, measuring 900 mm with the last 230mm double edged. The entire sword measures 1055 mm in length and 130 mm across the guard. There are small maker marks on the ricasso denoting ROBT MOLE SONS BIRMINGHAM, and a crown over B21 on the other, and MOLE on the spine. A “B” is present further up the spine. The blade is bright with areas of pitting and light wear. The bowl guard is of sheet steel with a pierced Maltese cross device and two sword knot slits, specific to the 1864 pattern. The grip is of black patterned leather riveted through the tang which is marked with two broad arrows. The pommel is hand engraved “C.S.C. 38”. A scarce sword in near extremely fine condition.
The scabbard is in steel, with two large rings and a reinforced chape, impressed 20 near the throat, and marked MOLE BIRMN on the spine. It measures 930 mm in length and 45 mm across the throat. It demonstrates small contact marks but remains in extremely fine condition.
