A swing mounted medal bar comprising for medals, reverse bears a single horizontal pin, measures 130 mm (w), of:
A British War Medal, in silver, rim impressed 1060251 PTE. J. FILLMORE 85TH BN. CAN. INF., light wear, very fine.
A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, rim impressed 1060251 PTE. J. FILLMORE 85TH BN. CAN. INF., light wear, very fine.
A Canadian Overseas Service Medal, in silver, oxidation to obverse, better than very fine.
A 1939-45 War Medal, in silver, tarnishing and water spots to the obverse, better than fine.
A Service Record belonging to Sgt. Fillmore, P., comprising eight pages of detailed entries regarding training periods/camps, promotions, transfers, engagements, commanding officers, and ‘pals’ to remember for both the First and Second War, measures 78 mm (w) x 171 mm (h), extremely fine.
Two black and white photographs of Fillmore, one dated Halifax December 1916, and the other is a postcard from Paris, both exhibiting slight wear, but remain very fine,
An American Identification Card, pressed fibre, impressed JAMES FILLMORE of BUFFALO N.Y., measures 89 mm (w) x 52 mm (h), very fine.
Two dog tags on a green cord, both in fibre, impressed CAN R76456 AIRMAN J FILLMORE PRES RCAF, both extremely fine.
Footnote: James Fillmore was born on June 8, 1898 in Amherst, N.S. When he enlisted with the 246th Battalion on December 12, 1916, he was residing with his foster mother, Mrs. Taylor, and working as a boilermaker, in Port Elgin, N.B.
He arrived in Liverpool, England in June 1917, and transferred to the 185th Battalion. He arrived in Boulouge, France in March 1917, and came under fire for the first time at Mount St. Eloi, Cambria. Fillmore was demobilized in June 1919, on his 21st birthday.
During the second war, he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on January 11, 1941, in Halifax, Canada. He trained from January 13 until March 11th of the same year, in Toronto. He completed multiple training courses in Nova Scotia in early 1941 and later in 1943.
He was promoted to acting corporal in May 1941, and sergeant in September 1944.
Fillmore was discharged at Lachine, Quebec in December 1945.
