A British War Medal, in silver, full size, rim impressed 101249 PTE. G.E. HOBSON. 49-CAN. INF., dark patina, light wear, very fine.
A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 101249 PTE. G.E. HOBSON. 49-CAN. INF., light wear and contact marks, remains near extremely fine.
A Memorial Cross, in silver, reverse engraved 101249 PTE. G.E. HOBSON, 6 o’clock arm marked STERLING, measures 31.7 mm (w) x 35.1 mm (h), worn on a full length original purple neck ribbon, lovely patina, light wear, very fine. Contained in the original case of issue, black pebbled exterior featuring a crown, velvet removable medal bed, measures 68 mm (w) x 90 mm (h) x 20 mm (h), otherwise very fine.
A Memorial Plaque, in bronze, full size, named to GEORGE EDWARD HOBSON, very fine.
A 66th Infantry Battalion Cap Badge, in browning copper, maker marked and dated "JACKSON BROS 1915" on the reverse, measuring 41 mm (w) x 43.2 mm (h), both lugs intact, light contact, better than very fine.
Accompanied by three small documents for the presentation of the decorations, and the original cardboard box for the war medal.
Footnote: George Edward Hobson was born in Sheffield, England in June 1886. He was employed as a teamster, with experience in the West Yorkshire Regiment when he enlisted with the 66th Battalion in September 1915.
He embarked from Canada on April 28, 1916, and disembarked in England on May 7, 1916. He was then transferred to the 49th Battalion. Hobson was dangerously ill on October 6, 1918 and later died of pneumonia on October 9.
