A British War Medal, in silver, full size, rim officially impressed 141418 PTE. S. ELFORD. 24-CAN. INF., bright, very fine.
A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, full size, rim officially impressed 141418 PTE. S. ELFORD. 24-CAN. INF., minor wear and scratches, very fine.
A Memorial Cross, in silver, full size, reverse engraved 141418 PTE. S. ELFORD, marked STERLING on reverse, fitted with a horizontal pin on the reverse, loss of silver finish, accompanied by a small section of replacement purple ribbon, very fine. Contained in original case of issue, a black pebbled case, velvet interior, measures 66 mm (w) x 85 mm (h) x 26 mm (d), light wear, very fine.
A 76th Infantry Battalion Cap Badge, in browning copper, reverse marked P ELLIS TORONTO LTD 1915, two lugs on reverse, measures 40 mm (w) x 39mm (h), exhibiting wear, better very fine.
Footnote: Stephen Elford was born in Holdle, Hampshire in May 1, 1893. He was employed as a labourer, with 3 years of experience with the 7th Hampshire Regiment. He enlisted in Hamilton on July 27, 1915.
He embarked for France in February 1916. He joined the 24th battalion in mid March, 1916. He was wounded on April 11, 1916, ultimately dying from the injury. He is buried in Dickebusch New Military Cemetery, in Ypres, Belgium.
