A British War Medal, in silver, full size, rim officially impressed 2021823 PTE. H. BOWER. 16-CAN.INF., minor wear, dark patina around edges, extremely fine.
A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, full size, rim officially impressed 2021823 PTE. H. BOWER. 16-CAN.INF., minor wear and scratches, very fine.
A Memorial Cross, in silver, full size, reverse engraved 2021823 Pte. H. BOWER., marked STERLING on reverse, loss of silver finish, missing ribbon, near very fine.
Footnote:
Harvey Bower was recruited under the Military Service Act in 1917. He was born on May 19, 1891 in Vancouver. At the time of his enlistment on December 12,1917, he was employed as a trainer of horses.
Bower arrived in England in May 1918 and was taken on strength by the 1st Reserve. He was transferred to the 16th battalion in October 1918.
He was sent to the field ambulance in late February 1919 with influenza and was considered ‘dangerously ill.’ He died in early March 1919, due to exposure whilst on active service.
