The 79th Regiment of Foot (Cameron Highlanders) served with distinction throughout the Peninsular War. As part of the British Army under the Duke of Wellington, the regiment fought in many of the campaign’s key engagements, including the battles of Busaco, Fuentes de Oñoro, Salamanca, Vittoria, the Pyrenees, and Toulouse. The 79th excelled in both defensive actions and aggressive assaults, often forming part of the solid infantry line that withstood repeated French attacks. Their performance in the rugged terrain of Spain and southern France helped solidify their standing as one of the British Army’s most reliable Highland regiments.
