A British War Medal, in silver, full size, rim impressed 830305 A.C.D.M. SJT. W.G. MICHAEL. 8-CAN. INF., lovely patina, extremely fine.
A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 830305 A.C.D.M. SJT. W.G. MICHAEL. 8-CAN. INF., areas of discolouration on the obverse and reverse, very fine.
Footnote: William Gordon Michael was born in Hamilton, Ontario in April 1884. At the time of his enlistment he was residing in Winnipeg with his wife Ethel, working as a grain merchant. He also had 2 years of experience with the 90th Winnipeg Rifles. He joined the war effort on December 20, 1915.
Michael arrived in England in September 1916 with the 144th battalion. He was transferred to the 18th reserve battalion in January 1917. In May, he was drafted to the 8th battalion.
He was admitted to the 7th General Hospital on August 31, 1917 with “Wd. Gas Shell Sev.” being the casualty reason. He also suffered from laryngitis in February 1918.
Michael died in Vancouver General Hospital in January 1971.
