A British War Medal, silver, full size, rim impressed 687396 A.L. CPL. G. E. CURTS 47-CAN. INF., original ribbon, minor contact marks, extremely fine.
A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 687396 A.L. CPL. G. E. CURTS 47-CAN. INF., original ribbon, light gilt wear, near very fine.
A Kelowna, B.C Aquatic Association Limited Medal, in silver, reverse engraved MENS WAR CANOE 1920, marked Sterling 925 with british silver marks, measures 29mm (w) x 34mm (h), worn on thin ribbon, light wear, very fine.
A 172nd Infantry Battalion “Rocky Mountain Rangers” Cap Badge, in browning copper, two lugs on reverse, marked O.B. ALLEN, measures 42.7mm (w) x 52.0mm (h), very fine condition.
Footnote: George Edgar Curts was born in Kelowna, B.C in January 1898. He was a single clerk when he enlisted with the 172nd Battalion on November 8, 1915. He sailed overseas on October 25, 1916. He was appointed acting lance corporal on November 1, 1916 while at Bramshott.
In May 1917, he was taken on strength by the 47th battalion, and was transferred to the 16th Canadian Reserve Battalion shortly after. In June 1917, he suffered from a gunshot wound to the left hand, and was subsequently hospitalized until mid September. He was later hospitalized for influenza in July 1918.
Curts was officially struck off strength in August 1919.
