A First War swing mounted medal bar with horizontal pin on the reverse, measures 105 mm (w) x 90 mm (h), comprising:
A 1914-15 Star, in bronze, full size, reverse impressed 457476 PTE. D. A. McKAY. 3/CAN: INF:, light wear, dark spot on the reverse regimental number, near extremely fine.
A British War Medal, silver, full size, rim impressed 457476 PTE. D. A. McKAY. 3-CAN. INF., original ribbon, light wear and lovely patina, extremely fine.
A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 457476 PTE. D. A. McKAY. 3-CAN. INF., original ribbon, light wear, very fine.
A 60th Infantry Battalion Cap Badge, pickled copper, reverse marked R.J. INGLIS LIMITED on reverse, two lugs intact on the reverse, measures 35.9 mm (w) x 38.7 mm (h), residue on the reverse, remains very fine.
Footnote: Donald Adamson McKay was born in Dundee Scotland in October 1887. He was employed as a machinist when he enlisted with the 60the battalion in Montreal on June 17, 1915.
In September 1915, he was transferred to the 3rd battalion, and taken on strength in the field. He was married on December 4, 1915. He arrived in England on January 8, 1916, and joined the unit the following day.
In June 1916, he was admitted to the No. 5 British Red Cross Hospital in Wimereux for a gunshot wound to the back and hand.
McKay was discharged due to demobilization in August 1919. He died on January 1, 1954.
