A British War Medal, in silver, full size, rim impressed 457003 PTE. W. A. ASHBY. 60-CAN. INF., original ribbon, dark patina on obverse, extremely fine.
A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 457003 PTE. W. A. ASHBY. 60-CAN. INF., original ribbon, light gilt wear, very fine.
A 60th (Victoria Rifles of Canada) Infantry Battalion, browning copper, unmarked, two lugs on reverse, measures 35.3 mm (w) x 37.8 mm (h), dark patina, extremely fine.
Footnote: William Arthur Ashby was born in Waterford, Ireland in October 1879. He was employed as a bookkeeper in Quebec when he enlisted in June 1915. He embarked for overseas service with the 60th Battalion in February 1916.
Ashby suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, and died of wounds on September 18, 1916.
