A 1914-15 Star, bronze, full size, reverse impressed 106371 L. CPL. E.W. LOVE. 1/CAN:MTD:RIF:, original ribbon with card backing for display, light wear to obverse, in very fine condition.
A British War Medal, silver, full size, rim impressed 106371 CPL. E.W.LOVE. 1-C.M.R., original ribbon with card backing for display, lovely patina, extremely fine.
A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed 106371 CPL. E. W. LOVE. 1-C.M.R., original ribbon with card backing for display, loss of gilt around edges, remains very fine.
Footnote: Edgar William Love was born in 1886 in Somerset, England. Prior to enlisting in the Great War, he served with the 2nd Battalion Somerset Light Infantry Volunteers as a cyclist. His trade at the time of enlistment was a rancher. Love joined the war effort on December 22, 1914 at Yorkton.
The 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles landed in France in September 1915. He was appointed Lance Corporal in June of 1916, and promoted to Corporal the following September. He was missing as of October 1, 1916, and therefore, for official purposes, presumed to have died. A Company was detached to the 5th CMR for the attack of Regina Trench. The official report was updated to ‘killed in action’ at the Battle of the Somme. He is buried at the Regina Trench Cemetery, in Somme, France.
