A British War Medal, in silver, full size, rim impressed LIEUT. G. K. HOLLAND., original ribbon, lovely patina, extremely fine.
A Victory Medal, bronze gilt, full size, rim impressed LIEUT. G. K. HOLLAND., original ribbon, light gilt wear, remains near extremely fine.
A Memorial cross, in silver, full size, reverse engraved Lieut. G. K. HOLLAND, marked STERLING, worn on purple ribbon and sewn to blue felt display board, minor wear and scratches, remains in very fine condition.
A 83rd CEF Infantry Cap Badge, silvered metal, lugs on reverse, measures 47.3 mm (w) x 46.9 mm (h), reverse marked ELLIS BROS, light toning, very fine.
Footnote: George Kilvert Holland was born in Toronto, Ontario in December 1892. He was the only child of Alexander Holland and Nannie Sophia (Kilvert) Holland. He was employed as a bank clerk in Woodstock, with three months experience with the 23rd regiment, when he enlisted in August 1915. He was deemed medically fit in April 1916, and sailed for England via the SS. Olympic on April 24th. Holland was transferred to the 12th Battalion and taken on strength in July 1916. In May 1917, he was taken on strength with the 3rd Battalion
In March 1917, he was admitted to the hospital in Shornecliffe for German Measles and rubella. He suffered from synovitis of the right knee the following month. He was discharged on April 25, 1917.
Holland was killed in action at Passchendaele, on November 6, 1917, at the age of 24, at the taking of Vinecot. He is buried in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery in West Flanders, Belgium.
