Saxony, Kingdom. An Albrecht Order, Grand Cross Badge, By G.a.scharffenberg, C.1910

(Albrechts-Orden Großkreuz). Instituted on 31 December 1850 by King Friedrich August II. Type II. 1876-1918 Issue. A silver gilt white enameled Latin cross with a green enameled oak wreath between the arms of the cross; the obverse with a central white enameled medallion depicting a leftward facing bust of Herzog Albrecht, surrounded by a blue enameled ring, inscribed “Albertus Animous” (Latin - Albert the Merciful), along with arabesques towards the bottom of the enameled ring; the reverse with a white enameled central medallion depicting the Saxon coat of arms, surrounded by a blue enameled ring with arabesques on the top, and “1850” on the bottom; suspended from a swivel crown and a double loop for suspension; maker marked “S” on the bottom arm of the cross for “G.A. Scharffenberg, Dresden”; measuring 53.96 mm (w) x 88.60 mm (h); weighing 48.8 grams; in overall better than extremely fine condition.
