Honduras, Republic. An Order Of Francisco Morazan, Commander, C.1950

(Orden de Francisco Morazán). Instituted 1941. A bronze gilt Maltese cross with white enamels and ball finials, with elaborate green laurels between in each quadrant, obverse centre exhibiting the bust of Francisco Morazan surrounded by the inscription FRANCISCO MORAZAN 1792-1842 on an enameled blue border both in bronze gilt, reverse centre also in silver gilt depicting the coat of arms of Honduras surrounded by the inscription REP. DE HONDURAS LIBRE SOBERANA E INDEPENDIENTE (Honduras Republic, Free, Sovereign, and Independent) on an enameled blue border, suspended by an exotic pyramid suspension in bronze gilt, measuring 51.66 m (w) x 70.09 mm (h- inclusive of pyramid suspension and integral ring), with lost of blue enamels and toned bronze, accompanied with replacement ribbon, better than very fine.

Footnote: The Order of Francisco Morazan was instituted in Honduras by decree of March 1, 1941. It is awarded to Honduran and foreign citizens in recognition of extraordinary achievements in military, scientific, literary, artistic, and humanitarian activities. Francisco Morazan was a central Honduran politician who was president of the Federal Republic of Central America from 1830 to 1839, and he was the head of state of Honduras in 1827-1830.
