Gold Filled with blue enamels, engraved with the initials "A.M.J", maker marked "J.E. CALDWELL" and marked "GOLD FILLED" on the reverse, measuring 23.5 mm (w) x 31.8 mm (h), intact enamels, horizontal pinback and vertical hook on the reverse, original ribbon suspended from a Gold Filled hanger with pinback, the obverse of the hanger engraved "Thomas Manchester", the reverse maker marked "J.E. CALDWELL" and marked "GOLD FILLED", extremely fine.
Footnote: The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century is an organization of women, eighteen years of age or over, who are lineal descendants of an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the Original Colonies in the geographical area of the present United States of America. Its members are devoted to preserving the memory of those that settled in the United States of America prior to 1701. It was established on July 15, 1915 and is a non-profit organization with its headquarters located in Washington D.C. The headquarters building, constructed in 1884, holds historical significance and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The organization is dedicated to upholding and continuing the values and ideals of their ancestors, and the preservation of historic sites and records, promotion of heraldry and coats of arms, and support of charitable projects and education. Through these and many other activities, they acknowledge and honor those individuals whose enduring legacy of virtue, courage and patriotism formed the nation.
