Description
(Infanterie-Regiment “Kaiser Wilhelm, König von Preußen” [2. Württembergische] Nr. 120 Waffenrock). An extremely well preserved service tunic belonging to a member of the 2. Württembergische “Kaiser Wilhelm, König von Preußen” Nr. 120 Infantry Regiment. It appears to be taylor-made and of high quality, with thick field-grey wool. The tunic features an undecorated turned-down collar that is flanked on both sides with sewn-on shoulder straps that are also secure to the tunic via a single single magnetic button per side, featuring the imperial crown on the obverse and marked “Hochfeine Qualität” (Finest Quality) and “ABS” on the reverse. The shoulder straps are constructed of a burlap core with a field-grey topper, with white piping along the exterior, and with the number “120” embroidered on each strap with red machine embroidery, measuring 44 mm (w) x 105 (l). This tunic has a total of three pockets; one breast pocket, and one pocket at waist-height per side. The interior of all pockets are lined with equally high quality field-grey coloured cotton, and secured shut via an external flap. Directly below the breast pocket are four green loops, oriented vertically, for the attachment of awards with a matching vertical pinback. The two sides of the tunic are secured together using a series of five matching vertically oriented buttons that are met by reinforced button-holes on the opposing flap. The interior body of this tunic is completely lined with equally high quality field-grey cotton, including the sleeves. It measures approximately 44 cm across the shoulders (seam to seam), with a 64 cm (seam to cuff), with an overall body length of 88 cm. This is a high quality example of a private-purchase Waffenrock, with very light signs of wear, depicting light to moderate mothing in multiple areas, with a period appropriate repair along the interior where the sleeve meets the body of the tunic by the armpit, in overall near extremely fine condition.
