(Cruz Peruana al Mérito Militar). Instituted in 1949. In silver gilt and enamel, red enameled cross, five points in each quadrant, the obverse centerpiece featuring a relief portrait of Colonel Francisco Bolognesi, circumscribed by the inscription CRUZ PERUANA AL MERITO MILITAR, as well by a green enameled wreath, the reverse inscription reads COLONEL FRANCISCO BOLOGNESI, pin assembly, 78.9 mm, enamels intact, light gilt wear, extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Peruvian Cross for Military Merit (Cruz Peruana al Mérito Militar) was instituted in 1949 to reward members of the Peruvian Armed Forces for meritorious service in the defense of the country. The Order was named in honor of Colonel Francisco Bolognesi (1816-1880) who commanded the Peruvian forces during the Pacific War (1879-1884).
