A silver medal, obverse named to L.S ROBERTS, and the reverse engraved H.M.S. HOOD & REPULSE VERSUS MAPPIN STORES S. PAULO SEPTEMBER 7 1922, measures 33 mm (w) x 38.3 mm (h), worn on original thin green and yellow ribbon, very fine.

A silvered medal, obverse featuring a football player, engraved SEPT 1922 at 6 o’clock, the reverse engraved H.M.S. Hood & Repulse versus C.A. Paulistano Sao Paulo 17-9-22, measures 28.5 mm (w) x 31.5 mm (h), on original ribbon, light wear, very fine.

Footnote: In September 1922, as part of a goodwill visit to the Brazilian Independence Centenary celebrations in Rio de Janeiro, a combined football team representing the crew of the Royal Navy battlecruisers HMS Hood and HMS Repulse played a friendly match against Club Athletico Paulistano (or a Brazilian international side).
