Instituted in 1910. In Gold, a badge presenting an eagle with outstretched etched wings, the body of the eagle in white enamels, a green enamelled wreath encircling the eagle’s head, with green enamelled sprigs of oak leaves in one claw and a thistle, flower, and clovers in the other claw, the obverse medallion featuring figures in gold raising a flag, encircled by a blue enamelled ring marked THE SOCIETY OF THE ARK AND THE DOVE 1633-1909, the reverse medallion featuring two ships on a green sea with blue sky, encircled by a blue enamelled ring inscribed DEO PATRIAE ET TERRIAE MARIAE, the badge measures 44.8 mm (w) x 45.14 mm (h - inclusive of integral suspension ring), weighs 24.73 grams (including ribbon), worn on original ribbon with brooch style pin at top, enamels intact, beautiful details in the wings and medallions, a scarce society medal, in better than extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Society of the Ark and the Dove was founded in 1910 to perpetuate the memory of the first families of Maryland and to provide opportunities for fellowship for all those who trace their descent from Lord Baltimore and from those who came on the Ark and the Dove in 1634 to settle the proprietary province of Maryland.
