1.A Mexican Border Service Medal. Bronze medal, obverse bearing an eagle, reverse inscription FOR SERVICE ON THE MEXICAN BORDER, numbered 20004 on the edge, on original ribbon, 32 mm, very fine condition.
Footnote: The Mexican Border Service Medal was instituted on July 9, 1918. The Bronze Medal was initially awarded to National Guard troops, who were ineligible for the award of the Mexican Service Medal, in recognition of federalized service during the Mexican War. The award was later extended to Army and National Guard personnel for service provided between May 9, 1916, and March 24, 1917, or for service with the Mexican Border Patrol between January 1, 1916, and April 6, 1917. The U.S.-Mexico border was thought to be a potential location for a German-funded invasion by Mexico.
2. A WW1 Victory Medal w. 3 Bars and Silver Star. Bronze medal, obverse shows a winged Victory, reverse inscription reads THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION with the coat of arms for the United States surmounted by a fasces, on both sides are the names of the Allied and Associated Nations,on original rainbow ribbon with three service clasps “Somme Offensive”, “Ypres-Lys”, and “Defensive Sector” and silver citation star, 36.3 mm, very fine condition.
Footnote: An award of a common allied service medal was recommended by an inter-allied committee in March 1919. Each allied nation would design a 'Victory Medal' for award to their military personnel, all issues having certain common features, including a winged figure of victory on the obverse and the same ribbon. The Victory Medal was awarded to military personnel for service between April 6, 1917, and November 11, 1918, or with either of the following expeditions: American Expeditionary Forces in European Russia, and American Expeditionary Forces Siberia.
3.New York Mexican Border Service Medal. Bronze medal, obverse bearing the great seal of the State of New York, reverse numbered 3610 on the edge, 33.4 mm, on original ribbon with safety pinback, very fine condition.
4.A New York World War I Service Medal. Bronze medal, obverse bearing an American soldier in front of a figure representing Liberty, reverse inscription reads FOR SERVICE 1917 - 1919 PRESENTED BY THE STATE OF NEW YORK, reverse top inscribed with number 11780, 33.4 mm, on original ribbon, very fine condition.
