In bronzed metal, magnetic, maker marked "ART NOVELTY CO. / HAMILTON Ohio" on the reverse, illustrating the right-facing bust in high relief of General Ulysses S. Grant of the Union Army in his three-star general's uniform, inscribed in Latin "FIDUS ET AUDAX" (Loyal and Bold) above the bust, flanked by the dates "1822" (his birth year) on the left and "1885" (his death year) on the right at the base of the bust, inscribed "U.S. GRANT" on the raised rim below the bust, measuring 270 mm in diameter, the reverse with die holes on either side and a wire strung between them for wall hanging, spotting evident on the obverse, surface rust present on the reverse, very fine.

Grant (born Hiram Ulysses Grant, April 27, 1822 - July 23, 1885) was an American military officer and politician who served as the eighteenth president of the United States from 1869 to 1877. As president, Grant was an effective civil rights executive who created the Justice Department and worked with the Radical Republicans to protect African Americans during Reconstruction. Previously, as Commanding General, he led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War in 1865 and thereafter briefly served as Secretary of War.
