France, Empire. A Napoleonic Letter Signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baron Bignon, 1815.

This official document is dated 23 June 1815, five days after the defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, and signed by the minister of foreign affairs, Louis Pierre Édouard, Baron Bignon. He writes to the civil and military officers responsible for maintaining Public Order in France to allow Monsieur General Count Sebastiani, who is charged with going to the General Headquarters, to pass freely. Stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the bottom of the document. Measuring at 28 cm (w) x 44.5 cm (h), this letter was produced on period paper and is in fragile but very fine condition. 

Footnote: Louis Pierre Édouard, Baron Bignon was a French diplomat and historian. During the Hundred Days (20 March – 8 July 1815), Bignon returned to France and entered the service of Napoleon as minister of foreign affairs under the executive commission. After the Battle of Waterloo, he signed the Convention of St. Cloud of 3 July 1815, by which Paris was handed over to the allies.
