(Orden de Honor y Mérito de la Cruz Roja Cubana). Instituted in 1913. Type I. Cross with a multi-piece construction, in silver gilt with red, white, light green, dark green, light blue, ultramarine blue and dark blue enamels, the cross mounted to a eight-pointed star base with large silver stars placed between each of the four arms of the cross, each star point of the star base with five pairs of faceted rays, with a single faceted ray between each star point, maker marked "VILARDEBO & RIERA HABANA" and marked "FABRICADO EN CUBA" (Manufactured in Cuba) on the reverse cartouche, measuring 82.7 mm (w) x 82.5 mm (h), vertical pinback, intact enamels, very light contact, near extremely fine.
Footnote: The Order of Honour and Merit of the Cuban Red Cross was instituted by Presidential Decree on January 31, 1913. The Cuban Red Cross was founded on May 14, 1909, and soon after it was allowed to grant awards in the country. The Order was awarded for meritorious services according to the rank of the recipient, the Order abolished in 1977. Type I has stars between the arms of the cross, while Type II has rays between the arms of the cross.
