(Orden Antonio Maceo), four-piece construction, 43,7 mm in diameter, weighing 25,9 grams, silvered and gilt metal with dark blue enamel centre ring inscribed “Antonio Maceo” surrounding a finely detailed gilt portrait of the General, slight staining of gilding visible on the upper star prong at 12 o’clock, reverse displaying the Cuban national coat of arms circumscribed “Republica de Cuba / Consejo de Estado,” fitted with a horizontal pinback device, accompanied by its corresponding ribbon bar, overall very fine.
Footnotes: Instituted by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba on 10 October 1976, the Orden Antonio Maceo was created in honour of Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo Grajales (1845–1896), known as “The Bronze Titan,” hero of the Cuban wars of independence. The order is awarded to members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and foreign military personnel for exceptional merit in command, organization, and strengthening of national defence. It occupies a high place in Cuba’s military order of precedence.
