Description
Description
(Medalla Por la Victoria Cuba R.P.A.), Circular gilt medal, 32,1 mm in diameter, obverse depicting the national flags of Cuba and the People’s Republic of Angola crossed before a five-pointed star and surrounded by a laurel wreath, the inscription “Por la Victoria Cuba R.P.A.” above, reverse displaying the Cuban national coat of arms circumscribed “Republica de Cuba / Consejo de Estado,” suspended from a pentagonal ribbon with vertical stripes of blue, white, red, yellow, and black, accompanied by its matching ribbon bar, overall very fine.
Footnotes: The Medalla Por la Victoria Cuba R.P.A. was established by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba to commemorate Cuban involvement in the Angolan Civil War, particularly the military operations carried out in cooperation with the People’s Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA). Awarded to Cuban personnel and foreign allies who took part in these campaigns, it marks Cuba’s military and political engagement in Africa during the Cold War era. The decoration symbolises the Cuban government’s commemoration of its interventionist role abroad, framed as a joint victory with the Angolan regime over South African and anti-communist forces.
