In electro-plated copper, marked "OLD ENGLISH REPRODUCTION B.P" above a lamp hallmark, marked "E.P. ON COPPER" (electro plate on copper), "B.M. MOUNTS" and numbered "98" on the bottom, ornate trim affixed along the lip of the opening on the base, the front of the lid incorporating a protruding dual wave-style lift, the lid engraved "PRESENTED TO LEADING SEAMAN COLBOURNE BY THE COMMANDING OFFICER, OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE 19TH CARRIER AIR GROUP on the occasion of his marriage / 5th SEPTEMBER 1949.", the inside lid with a distinct reflective quality, measuring 106 mm (w) x 101 mm (h) x 41 mm (d) inclusive of its protruding dual wave-style lift, dark patina, light contact, the base inside exhibiting wear and exposing the underling copper in a few areas, very fine.
Footnote: The 19th Carrier Air Group was formed in the Canadian Naval Service, with the Majestic-class light aircraft carrier HMCS Magnificent (CVL 21) serving the Royal Canadian Navy from 1948 to 1957. Initially ordered by the Royal Navy during the Second World War, the Royal Canadian Navy acquired the carrier as a larger replacement for its existing operational carrier. Magnificent was generally referred to as "Maggie" in Canadian service. Following its return to the United Kingdom in 1956, the ship remained in reserve until being scrapped in 1965.
